how to stop overthinking

Behind an individual’s vibrant personality is a brain overflowing with countless thoughts. He or she can feel everything as a high-pressure situation. Overthinking can take over in an instant – once it’s there, it’s difficult to stop it. If you are this person, does it come to the point that overthinking is now impacting your life negatively?

If yes, then it’s time to do something to stop it! We know it’s not as easy as it sounds. Learn to set your goals – that the habit of overthinking must not be a permanent part of your existence. So how to stop overthinking? By doing the following activities, you’ll realize that sometimes life is better when you just let it be.

1. How To Stop Overthinking? Recognise Your Condition

If you are aware of your condition, the tendency is you will be finding an effort to escape or to heal. By recognising that you are an over-thinker, chances are, you will know that it’s time to step back and assess the situation. Psychology Today emphasised in their article “6 Tips to Stop Overthinking”, that awareness is the first step in putting an end to overthinking.

2. Go Back to What You Love Doing

After recognising your situation, make a move, and remember the thing that made you feel before. Why not go back what you love doing, especially if it lets you forget things. Overthinking happens when you are doing nothing. Be conscious in making your mind and body busy, until you realise you already spent many hours without worrying.

3. Schedule a Reflection Time

Slow down. It has been a long day. You don’t need to overachieve and think of what’s left to do for tomorrow. Divert your attention and schedule a time for your reflection. Social media may be tempting, but please stay away from it for a good 30 minutes or more. Grab a paper or notebook and write your thoughts about your day.  Release what you feel through writing, and I assure you’ll feel better. Those thoughts, positive or negative, once released, can help clear your mind from overthinking.

4. Faith Over Fear

Accept that you can’t predict the future. It’s time to be grateful for what you have accomplished as a person. Take the initiative to go to church or pray to have a piece of mind. Breathe, and don’t let fear consume your well-being. Let faith overpower your mindset to slowly remove your overthinking habits.

5. Schedule a Massage

Everyone deserves time to pamper themselves. After all, too much overthinking may affect your overall appearance. When you roam around the city, go to the mall or your office, who doesn’t want to look presentable?

So mark a date and schedule an appointment to your nearest day spa. You might want to avail of a scalp massage that can help you clear your mind. How about a Swedish Massage to remove all the stress from your body?

Did you know that massage is more than just physical healing? It is the perfect answer to let go of anxiety as well. When you are at your most calm self, it triggers the release of serotonin, which helps you relax. As a result, you’ll be able to sleep better and think better – a good cure for our overthinking habits, which often leads to anxiety.

6. Break a Sweat - Exercise!

Do yourself a favor. Try to go out and jog. If you have extra time, visit the gym and exercise. Doing these activities will help divert your attention, which is perfect for people who overthinks a lot.

Overthinking most likely leads to stress. Exercise and other physical activities produce endorphins, which trigger a positive response in the body. After running or working out, you feel a euphoric moment, which often leads to a positive outlook in life. The benefits of exercise are more than physical, do it, and your overthinking problems will be solved. That’s how to stop overthinking.
